SONS OF MODERNITY

SONS OF MODERNITY
Poor pregnant earth
painfully gave birth
to sons of higher height
without head, without sight
Mischievous sons
worse than previous ones

They sowed weeds
among true seeds

They fashioned the ware
whose breath staled the air

They chopped down the tree
which dropped drupes free

They shaved the land's hair
stripped the forest bare

They cursed the river
with a malfunctioning liver

Ingrate sons. Recalcitrant sons
what did you do to our sun?
You met her tame
We knew her light
not her flame
You kept her on her feet
and exposed her heat

The seeds
have made known their cry
who will rescue them? Who?
from the evil weeds' deeds

The air
is in poor health
the birds suffocate
who will heed their plea? Who ?
to vindicate them
and restore their breath

The river
Her daughter, the fish
ceases not shiver
who can grant her wish? Who?
she'd pay him silver

The land
the sakora land
can't stand
the blazing sun
who can build her an umbrella? Who?
to keep safe her sand

The tree
her ghost mourns her shoot
who can locate her root. Who?
and regenerate her shoot
Who?
